The Teltonika RUT906 (RUT906000200) is a 4G LTE Cat 4 industrial router with dual SIM, RS232, RS485, GNSS, and extended I/O. It is the serial-interface member of the RUT series. The RUT906 connects PLCs, RTUs, meters, and other serial equipment to cellular networks. RutOS brings a full industrial protocol stack on top. UK stock, next day delivery.

Two features set the RUT906 apart from other routers in the RUT range. First, it carries both RS232 (DB9) and RS485 (6-pin industrial socket), giving direct connections to legacy hardware without adapters or converters. Second, it includes a GNSS receiver for GPS location tracking, NTRIP correction data, and geofencing. An analog input (0-24 V, 4-20 mA capable) and SPST relay output add sensor monitoring and local switching in one device.

Applications

Utility Meter Reading over Cellular

The RUT906 supports DLMS/COSEM over RS232, RS485, and TCP, the standard protocol for utility meter data exchange. It connects directly to electricity, gas, and water meters via RS485. Data is then forwarded to a head-end system over 4G LTE using MQTT, HTTP(S), or Azure. The dual SIM provides continuity if the primary carrier fails.

Building Automation and BACnet

BACnet is the primary protocol in HVAC, lighting control, and access control systems. The RUT906 runs as a BACnet router over RS485 and TCP. It bridges legacy BACnet MS/TP devices on RS485 to IP-based building management systems. This is used in energy monitoring for commercial buildings, cold storage facilities, and NHS sites with existing BACnet infrastructure.

SCADA and Modbus RTU Telemetry

Cellular Failover with Serial Pass-Through

Sites with fixed-line broadband and serial equipment use the RUT906 to handle both requirements in one device. The WAN port takes the primary broadband connection. On failure, the RUT906 switches automatically to 4G LTE. Serial devices on RS232 or RS485 remain accessible throughout via Serial over IP. What GNSS systems does the RUT906 support?

GPS is confirmed. GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, and QZSS are listed in Teltonika’s documentation as under development.
