What is Teltonika RMS?

Teltonika RMS Explained

Teltonika RMS (Remote Management System) is a cloud-based platform for monitoring, managing, and accessing Teltonika Networks routers and gateways from a single interface – regardless of where those devices are deployed. It removes the need for public IP addresses, on-site visits, and separate VPN infrastructure. Engineers can view device status, push configuration changes, update firmware, and open a remote connection to any device or the equipment behind it, from a browser, anywhere in the world.

RMS is used by network integrators, utilities, industrial operators, and IoT solution providers managing anything from a handful of remote sites to fleets of thousands of deployed devices. Every compatible Teltonika router includes a 30-day free RMS trial. After that, access is activated per device using credits or multi-year management packages.

What RMS Does – The Four Core Services

RMS Management

The foundation of the platform. RMS Management gives you a centralised dashboard showing every connected device – status, signal strength, connectivity type, firmware version, and active alarms. From here you can push configuration changes to one device or hundreds simultaneously, trigger firmware updates over the air, reboot devices, export event logs, and download full troubleshooting packages. No public IP is required on the device.

RMS Connect

RMS Connect creates time-limited encrypted proxy links to devices and the equipment connected behind them. You can open the router’s WebUI via HTTP/HTTPS, connect via SSH or Telnet for command-line access, transfer files via SFTP, or reach a connected computer or PLC via RDP or VNC – all through a browser, without port forwarding or a static IP. Links expire after 45 minutes by default. RMS Connect works with non-Teltonika devices too, so you can reach a connected camera, POS terminal, or industrial controller through the same interface.

RMS VPN

RMS VPN sets up a secure site-to-site or hub-and-spoke VPN across your entire device fleet in minutes. VPN Quick Connect handles the configuration automatically. VPN Hub gives advanced control over connected clients and routes. The service uses an encrypted tunnel and runs on AWS infrastructure hosted in Germany. It is suitable for M2M networks where remote sites need to communicate securely without a dedicated VPN server.

RMS Data Collect

Introduced in RMS 5.0, Data Collect brings IoT platform functionality into the same interface as device management. It collects sensor parameters from devices and connected equipment in real time, supports industrial protocols including Modbus, MQTT, M-Bus, and TR-069, and lets you build dashboards, set threshold-based alerts, and create automated responses – for example, triggering a command when a temperature sensor exceeds a defined value. This removes the need for a separate IoT data platform in many deployments.

How RMS Pricing Works

Every compatible Teltonika device ships with a 30-day free RMS Management trial. After that, access is pay-per-device using one of the following options:

  • Credits – each credit gives one device 30 days of RMS Management access. Buy as many as needed, assign to any device.
  • Management packages – fixed-term packages of 3, 5, 6, 10, or 12 years per device. Suited to long-term deployments and annual contract billing cycles.

RMS Connect and RMS VPN are priced on data consumption. Every new company account receives 5 GB of Connect/VPN data free. After that, data is purchased as 2 GB credits (assigned per company) or as a 150 GB package assigned to a specific device for 10 years. You only pay for data used.

The RMS API gives 100,000 free API requests per 30-day period per company. This allows integration of RMS data and functionality into your own IoT platform or management dashboard.

Which Teltonika Devices Support RMS?

All current Teltonika RUT, RUTX, RUTM, and RUTC series routers support RMS, as do TRB series IoT gateways, TSW managed switches, and TAP/DAP access points running RutOS. The RUTC series edge routers – RUTC40, RUTC41, RUTC42, and RUTC50 – combine RMS compatibility with Docker container support, allowing local application hosting and data processing alongside full remote management from a single platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a public IP address to use RMS?

No. RMS does not require a public IP address on the device. The router connects outbound to the RMS cloud platform. This means RMS works on standard dynamic SIM data plans including most IoT SIM cards. If you need a fixed, routable IP for other reasons – such as a VPN tunnel or inbound access outside of RMS – a fixed IP SIM card is still worth considering alongside RMS.

Can I use RMS to access equipment connected to the router, not just the router itself?

Yes. RMS Connect lets you configure access to any IP device on the LAN behind the router. You specify the destination IP and port – for example, a PLC at 192.168.1.50:502, a camera at 192.168.1.100:80, or a Windows machine at 192.168.1.10:3389. RMS creates an encrypted proxy link so you can reach that device from a browser without any firewall changes or port forwarding on the router side.

Is RMS secure?

Yes. All communication between the device and RMS uses an encrypted proprietary protocol. RMS Connect links are time-limited and encrypted via SSH tunnel. The platform runs on AWS infrastructure hosted in Germany. Authentication uses Teltonika ID, which supports biometric login. There is no unencrypted path into a managed device through RMS.

What is the difference between RMS credits and RMS management packages?

Credits are the flexible, pay-as-you-go option – one credit equals 30 days of Management access for one device. Packages lock in a fixed term (3, 5, 6, 10, or 12 years) per device at a lower effective cost per day. Credits suit smaller fleets or short-term projects. Packages suit large-scale or long-term deployments where cost per device over time matters. Contact routerstore.com to discuss the best fit for your fleet size and deployment duration.

Can RMS manage thousands of devices?

Yes. RMS scales from a single device to tens of thousands. Large fleets benefit from bulk firmware update, multi-device configuration push, and the network map view to track device health across geographically distributed deployments. The RMS API allows integration into existing NOC platforms, ERP systems, or custom dashboards for operators running large-scale infrastructure.
