Teltonika RUTC50 – 5G Industrial Router with Docker and Wi-Fi 6
The Teltonika RUTC50 is a 5G Sub-6 GHz industrial router built for edge computing and demanding IoT deployments. It delivers download speeds up to 3.4 Gbps via 4×4 MIMO and falls back automatically to 4G LTE Cat 20 or 3G when 5G coverage is unavailable. Dual Nano SIM slots with configurable auto-failover, plus eSIM support on the *1**** order code, keep connectivity live across network changes, roaming events, and data limit triggers.
Where the RUTC50 separates from other Teltonika 5G routers is the combination of Docker container support, dual-band Wi-Fi 6 capable of serving up to 512 clients simultaneously, and built-in GNSS covering GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, and QZSS. The device runs RutOS on a dual-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor and is managed remotely via Teltonika RMS. It sits in anodised aluminium housing rated IP30, operating from -40 to +75 °C.

Applications
5G-Connected CCTV and Traffic Management
The RUTC50 suits high-density CCTV deployments where 4G bandwidth is insufficient for multiple 4K streams. The 5G uplink handles continuous video data, and the built-in GNSS provides geolocation for mobile or temporary camera installations. Wi-Fi 6 connects local access points or wireless cameras without a separate switch.
Edge Computing and Local Data Processing
Docker support lets you run containerised applications on the router itself, removing the need for a separate edge server in many deployments. Data from sensors or local devices is processed and filtered at the edge before transmission, reducing cloud costs and latency. Applications include energy monitoring, predictive maintenance, and local SCADA data aggregation.
Smart City Infrastructure
Traffic signal control, roadside display systems, and public Wi-Fi kiosks all need high-throughput, reliable backhaul combined with the ability to serve multiple local connections. The RUTC50 provides 5G backhaul with a 512-client Wi-Fi 6 access point in a single device. GNSS supports location tagging for asset management.
Public Transport and Fleet Connectivity
The RUTC50’s dual SIM failover keeps passenger and operational Wi-Fi connected as vehicles move between operators and coverage zones. GNSS provides real-time position data for fleet management systems. The operating temperature range of -40 to +75 °C covers vehicle environments in all UK and European climates.
Industrial IoT and Remote Monitoring
Modbus TCP, OPC UA, DNP3, and DLMS/COSEM support connect the RUTC50 directly to industrial sensors, energy meters, and control equipment. Data is forwarded via MQTT or HTTP to Azure IoT Hub, AWS IoT Core, or a private server. VPN on the cellular connection keeps the management channel secure without relying on public IP addressing.
Temporary and Pop-Up Deployments
For events, construction sites, and emergency response, the RUTC50 deploys rapidly on a DIN rail or flat surface without fixed infrastructure. eSIM on *1**** variants supports remote SIM provisioning for touch-free activation. A fixed IP SIM enables inbound VPN and remote management access from day one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the RUTC50 support Docker containers?
Yes. The RUTC50 supports Docker container deployment directly on the device. This is the key differentiator of the RUTC series versus the RUTX and RUTM lines. You can run isolated applications and custom software environments without separate edge computing hardware. See our Docker explainer for more detail on how Docker works on Teltonika routers.
What is the difference between the RUTC50 and the RUTX50?
Both are 5G industrial routers, but the RUTC50 adds Docker container support, Wi-Fi 6 (the RUTX50 uses Wi-Fi 5), and a more powerful SoC. Teltonika report OpenVPN throughput approximately 700% higher and IPsec approximately 500% higher on the RUTC50 versus the RUTX50. The RUTC50 also has built-in GNSS and supports up to 512 Wi-Fi clients versus fewer on the RUTX50.
Does the RUTC50 support eSIM?
eSIM is available on *1**** order code variants of the RUTC50. These support consumer-type eSIM with profile download and removal, and can store up to 7 eSIM profiles. The *0**** variants have two physical Nano SIM slots only. Check the order code when purchasing to confirm eSIM capability. See our eSIM routers explainer for background.
What SIM card does the RUTC50 use?
The RUTC50 uses Nano SIM (4FF) cards in two physical slots. A SIM adapter kit is included in the box for use with smaller formats. For remote access, VPN endpoints, and CCTV over cellular, a fixed IP SIM is strongly recommended. Standard SIMs sit behind carrier-grade NAT and cannot receive inbound connections without additional configuration. Our IoT SIM cards are compatible with all Teltonika routers.
What is Teltonika RMS and does the RUTC50 support it?
Teltonika RMS is a cloud-based remote management platform for monitoring, configuring, and updating Teltonika devices without physical access. The RUTC50 fully supports RMS. You can reboot devices, push firmware, change configuration, and access the WebUI remotely through RMS. See our Teltonika RMS explainer for full detail. RMS credits are purchased separately.
What mounting options does the RUTC50 support?
The RUTC50 supports DIN rail, wall mount, and flat surface installation. Mounting kits are not included in the standard box and are purchased separately. When fitting stub antennas inside a metal enclosure, external antennas on short low-loss cable runs consistently outperform internal stubs. Contact our team on 0300 124 6181 for antenna recommendations.
