Teltonika has placed the RUTX50 5G router into its end of life cycle. You can still order the RUTX50 until 3 February 2027, and Teltonika will support it with firmware and security updates until 3 August 2032. Nothing breaks overnight, and any RUTX50 you buy or run today keeps working. This is a planning notice, not a switch-off.

The two named successors are the Teltonika RUTM50 and the Teltonika RUTC50. For UK and European buyers there is an important detail in that choice, which we set out below along with a full spec comparison so you can pick the right upgrade path.

What end of life means for the RUTX50

Teltonika splits an end of life notice into three separate dates. They matter because each one affects a different part of your buying and support decision.

The headline point is the five year support runway. A unit installed today has firmware and security cover through to August 2032, so there is no urgency to rip and replace. What the notice does mean is that any new standardisation, any large rollout, and any long spares strategy should now be built around a successor rather than the RUTX50.

Why Teltonika is retiring the RUTX50

The RUTX50 was Teltonika's first industrial 5G router and it has been the default 5G workhorse across UK deployments for years. The retirement is a generational move rather than a fault. Teltonika now has a broader 5G line up, and the RUTX50's role is being split between two newer platforms: the RUTM50 as a direct like for like successor, and the RUTC50 as the edge compute and high density option. The replacement options: RUTM50 and RUTC50

Teltonika names both the RUTM50 and the RUTC50 as replacements, but they are not interchangeable, and for UK buyers there is a timing point that decides which one you can actually deploy today.

Teltonika RUTM50

The RUTM50 is the closest thing to a direct RUTX50 replacement. It keeps the same shape of product: dual SIM 5G, five Gigabit Ethernet ports, dual band Wi-Fi 5, GNSS, and full RutOS, and it is positioned at a more competitive price than the RUTX50 was. The catch is region. The RUTM50 launched as an FCC certified model for North America. A UKCA and EMEA certification track exists on the Teltonika wiki, and a UK and European variant is expected to arrive before the RUTX50 reaches end of production, but a confirmed UK launch date is not yet published. Until that EU variant ships and lands in UK stock, the RUTM50 is not the router to specify for a British or European site.

Teltonika RUTC50

The Teltonika RUTC50 is the more capable of the two and it is available in the UK and Europe now. It shares the RUTX50's dual SIM 5G core but adds three things the RUTX50 never had: dual band Wi-Fi 6 serving up to 512 clients, Docker container support for running applications directly on the router, and a far more powerful processor with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of flash. Teltonika report OpenVPN throughput roughly 700% higher and IPsec roughly 500% higher on the RUTC50 than on the RUTX50. If your deployment involves edge processing, heavy VPN, or dense Wi-Fi, the RUTC50 is a genuine step up rather than a like for like swap.

Which should you choose?

The right upgrade depends on what the site actually needs, and on when you need to deploy it.

You want a straight replacement and can wait

If your deployment matches what the RUTX50 already did, a dual SIM 5G router with wired failover and no on device applications, the RUTM50 is the natural successor once the UK and EU variant reaches stock. It carries the same core feature set at a lower price point. If your rollout is not urgent, waiting for the EU RUTM50 is a sensible plan.

You need to deploy now, or you need more router

If you are specifying today, or your site would benefit from Wi-Fi 6, higher client density, stronger VPN performance, or the ability to run software on the router itself, the RUTC50 is the answer and it is in UK stock now. It is more capable than the RUTX50 in every dimension that matters for demanding sites, and it removes the need for separate edge computing hardware.

You have an existing RUTX50 estate

Keep running it. Support continues to August 2032. Standardise new sites on a successor, hold a small RUTX50 spares buffer if you need identical hardware across a fleet, and migrate on your own timeline rather than under pressure.

Planning your migration

A few practical points catch installers moving off the RUTX50, so plan for them before you order.

The SIM form factor changes. The RUTX50 uses Mini SIM (2FF) cards. The RUTC50 uses Nano SIM (4FF). If you are swapping RUTX50 units for RUTC50 units, the existing SIMs will not fit, so factor in new SIM cards or adaptors. For remote management and inbound VPN, a fixed IP SIM is worth specifying on any of these routers, because standard SIMs sit behind carrier grade NAT that blocks inbound connections.

eSIM changes the ordering too. The RUTC50 offers integrated eSIM on its *1**** order code with up to 7 stored profiles, which is useful for touch free provisioning across a fleet. The bootstrap profile is not a data plan, so an active eSIM data plan is obtained separately.
