InHand Networks ODU12 outdoor 5G FWA router
The InHand Networks ODU12 is an outdoor 5G FWA router that brings fixed wireless access, Wi-Fi 7 and 2.5 GbE wired networking into one sealed IP65 enclosure. It runs 5G NR Sub-6 (NSA and SA, 3GPP Release 16) with 4G LTE Cat 19 fallback, and every antenna sits inside the case, so there are no external whips to mount or aim. A die-cast aluminium heat sink forms the structural frame, which lets the unit run fanless and silent. Power and data reach the ODU12 over a single 802.3at PoE cable.
Coming soon: the EMEA edition of the ODU12 is expected Q1 2027. Band support, certification and the EMEA order code are being finalised with InHand and are not yet confirmed, so treat any band and certification detail below as provisional until launch. If you need an outdoor 5G CPE with integrated antennas in the UK today, the Milesight UF51-504AE-W4 5G outdoor CPE with Wi-Fi 6 is in stock now. What is the ODU12 used for?
Rural and edge-of-network premises
Where fixed-line broadband is slow or unavailable, 5G FWA gives a premises a fast primary or backup connection. The ODU12 mounts outside at roof or gable height, where the 5G signal is strongest, then feeds the building over a single PoE run. Wi-Fi 7 and the 2.5 GbE LAN carry the connection indoors without a separate access point.
Outdoor hospitality and leisure
Campsites, caravan parks, wineries, outdoor cafes and holiday parks need coverage across open ground that indoor kit cannot reach. The ODU12 provides 5G backhaul and outdoor Wi-Fi 7 from one weatherproof unit on a pole or wall. The integrated antennas keep the installation tidy in guest-facing areas.
Construction sites and temporary networks
Site offices, welfare units and temporary compounds need connectivity fast, with no fixed line to wait for. The ODU12 goes up on a mast or scaffold pole and connects over 5G FWA in minutes. Dual nano-SIM hot backup keeps the link up if one network drops, and the unit relocates cleanly as the site moves.
Yards, warehouses and logistics parks
Large outdoor areas need coverage for AGV dispatch, ANPR cameras, surveillance and staff communications. The ODU12 delivers a high-capacity 5G uplink and outdoor Wi-Fi 7 across the yard from a single pole-mounted unit. The 2.5 GbE LAN port backhauls a local CCTV switch or wired camera on the same structure.
Public realm and smart city
Parks, plazas, stations and seafronts need public Wi-Fi and CCTV backhaul without trenching for fibre. The ODU12 pairs a 5G uplink with 128-client Wi-Fi 7 in a low-profile enclosure that suits street furniture and public spaces. GPS positioning supports asset tracking and cloud-side location on distributed fleets.
Pro tip
Plan the power and the cabling before the mast goes up. The ODU12 is powered over 802.3at PoE and ships with a matched injector, so you need one outdoor-rated Cat6 run back to the injector or a PoE switch, not a separate DC supply at height. Keep that run inside the 100 m Ethernet limit and add surge protection where the cable enters the building. One more point on throughput: the modem peaks at 7.01 Gbps, but every byte leaves through a single 2.5 GbE port, so size real-world capacity at roughly 2 Gbps.
Building a resilient cellular connection
The ODU12 carries two 4FF nano-SIM slots with hot backup, so putting SIMs from two different networks in the unit gives you mobile network diversity if one operator has an outage in the area. For inbound remote access and VPN tunnels, pair it with a fixed IP SIM card, since standard SIMs sit behind carrier-grade NAT. InCloud Manager monitors device status, signal and traffic across the fleet and pushes alerts on link anomalies. Because power runs over PoE, a small UPS on the injector or switch keeps the link alive through short mains interruptions.
Frequently asked questions
Is the ODU12 a 5G FWA router?
Yes. The ODU12 is an outdoor 5G FWA (fixed wireless access) router, sometimes called a 5G CPE. It uses a 5G NR Sub-6 connection as the wide area link, then shares that connection locally over Wi-Fi 7 and 2.5 GbE Ethernet. For a plain-English overview of the technology, see our guide to what 5G FWA is.
When will the ODU12 be available in the UK?
The EMEA edition is expected in Q1 2027. Bands, certification and the EMEA order code are being confirmed with InHand. If you need an outdoor 5G CPE with integrated antennas now, the Milesight UF51-504AE-W4 is in stock. Call us on 0300 124 6181 to register interest in the ODU12.
Does the ODU12 need a separate power supply?
No. The ODU12 is powered over IEEE 802.3at PoE and includes a PoE injector in the box. A single Ethernet cable carries both power and data to the unit, which keeps pole and wall installations free of a separate DC feed at height. It is also compatible with 802.3af sources.
Does the ODU12 use external antennas?
No. All antennas are integrated: 8 for 5G, 3 for Wi-Fi and 1 for GPS, giving 360 degree coverage from a one-piece enclosure. There are no external whips to mount, align or weatherproof, which suits public-facing and exposed sites.
What real-world throughput should I expect?
The 5G modem peaks at 7.01 Gbps downlink, but the ODU12 has a single 2.5 GbE port, so usable wired throughput is capped at around 2 Gbps. That is still far beyond most fixed lines and ample for FWA, CCTV backhaul and public Wi-Fi. Actual speed depends on your SIM, band and signal.
Which SIM card do I need?
The ODU12 takes a standard 4FF nano-SIM, and holds two for network diversity. For remote management, CCTV and SCADA backhaul, a fixed IP SIM card gives a static public IP that simplifies VPN and direct device access. For general data, a standard IoT SIM card works.
